An Overview Of Landscape Designer Jobs
One of the fastest growing professions is that of landscape architect. One thing you should know about landscape designer jobs is that a college education with a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in landscape architecture is required. Of course if you possess a Master's Degree your employment options will be even better. There are many tasks performed by a landscape architect, so much more than just deciding what goes where. These professionals work on both commercial, municipal and residential projects. Some are employed by the local government to help beautify the city.
Landscape designers get paid varying salaries depending on where they work, however the pay is quite consistent to the level of education and training required. Also, the Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that the career of landscape architecture will grow quickly over a short period of time. That means there will be a high demand for educated, trained professionals in this field, which may lead to even higher pay and better benefits if good candidates are hard to find. Some designers work for firms, cities or other places, while some are self employed.
The tasks of a landscape architect are not always performed outdoors like you might think. If you're looking for a career where you spend a lot of time in the sun, horticulture is a good job choice for you. Landscape designers spend a large amount of time indoors at the computer, using design software to plan projects. They also work in close proximity with city planners, zoning professionals, horticulture professionals, manual laborers and others to make the image on the computer, or the page, a reality. There may be research required when it comes to certain plant life and where it should be placed.
If you are interested in landscape designer jobs, you can start preparing for your career as early as high school by studying advanced math, horticulture and drafting. The last two subjects are often offered at vocational schools which some high school students attend during part of the school day. The next step is an Associates Degree, followed by a Bachelor's Degree and sometimes a Master's. It all depends on how far you want to go in your education and career. The least you can expect before able to get your foot in the door is four years of college education and an internship with a professional landscaping design firm or professional.
